A top loader (or “top loader”) primarily differs from a typical washing machine in terms of the space it saves. Furthermore, top loaders can hang the drum twice instead of just hanging it up. This can increase stability and reduce damage to the axles from the resulting imbalance. Front loaders, on the other hand, only have a simple suspension – after all, the front of the drum is open so that you can load laundry.
However, the design of a top loader also has disadvantages. The smallest is the missing viewing window. No manufacturer has trouble providing a machine with a visual inspection and a transparent drum.
A narrow design also means no room for large family drums. Models with five to six kilograms of laundry are typical. There are also devices for seven or eight kilograms. We don’t know any top loaders for nine or ten kilograms.
Spin speeds of 1,200 to 1,600 revolutions per minute (rpm) are typical in front-loading washing machines. Top-loading washing machines usually spin much more slowly: 1,000 to 1,200 rpm are often found, occasionally 1,400 rpm. This means that the laundry will often be slightly damper than with other machine types.
The most significant difficulty with a top loader is getting to the laundry. Since you have to remove the laundry from above, the machines are often built higher, and the drum sits in the belly of the device. You have to bend deeply for the last lost sock. If you let your children get the laundry out of the machine and hang it up from time to time, this could be an obstacle with a top loader in the future.
